Friday 28th July 2006-CUFC Firsts' vs. CUFC Reserves
Cirencester United's 1st team payed the reserve side in the first pre season friendly, last Friday,in what turned out to be a good run out for both sides well controlled by Gary Mobley, the reserves took the lead
with an own goal following a mix up between the centre back and keeper, Phil Hall last season's top scorer equalised
with a firm drive that keeper Lee Clatworthy got a hand to but couldnt stop it going in at the far post. The second half
saw the 1st team manager Rich Smith introduce Dave Tyler and Alex Rudd to the attack and they were to be the differance between the sides, Tyler out jumped the reserve centre backs to score with a firm header, and soon follwed up with a right foot strike, Ian Probert made a strong run down the left and pulled the ball back for Rudd to drive home, Ian McSherry pulled a goal back when Ben Potter delivered the pass of the night, but another 1st team debutant Toby Clapton halted any visions of a fight back with the final goal of the night. All in all both managers would of been pleased, Mark Warriner would of been happy with several of his debutants and Smith would of been well pleased with is new look line up. Back to top

Binfield 2 Cirencester United 1A much changed United side made the trip to Binfield, one of three of the clubs United face from the east side of the league. Five players from last seasons promotion team were available for this there first fixture of the new season. It was the home side that opened the scoring after only 3 minutes when a bad call allowed the home side forward to nip in and cross for an easy finish from Binfields Chambers. But 8 minutes later last seasons top scorer Stuart Robinson closed down two defenders who tried to find the keeper, but Robinson was quickest to the ball and fired home. Both sides went forward
but neither tested the keepers, and a draw looked a fair result, but in the 70 minute the home number 9, Oates, tried to find his way through 3 challenges in the box the 3rd one
brought him down and he stepped up to to fire home the resultant penalty. Back to top
Wednesday 13th September 2006-Reserve Division One-Fairford Town Reserves vs. Cirencester United Reserves
United traveled to Fairford for this mid-week fixture with Dan Bailey replacing the unavailable Davies, and Ian Probert and Colin Curtis coming in for Meredith andand the injured Newman, they were soon 2-0 up when Bailey and Stuart Robinson
pounced on goal keeping errors, to score similar goals, but the home side are amongst
the favourites to win the division, and United knew they would make a fight of it, and
although the visitors withstood a lot of pressure it was just before half-time they conceded
the goal that brought the home side back into the game, Matt Chamberlain was given a bit of room and he struck a shot that just dipped under the bar.
The second half saw the home side pressing but United were dangerous on the break, but midway through a free kick was headed home by Ben Snook, instead of collapsing however United responded straight away when full back Curtis broke forward and drove a low shot into the far corner. The home side scored the leveller from a disputed free kick with six minutes remaining Back to top
Saturday 16th September 2006-Reserve Cup Preliminary Round-Cirencester United Reserves vs. Headington Amateurs Reserves
A strong Headington side came to the four acres and progressed into the next round of the league cup when a disputed free-kick was quickly taken and caught the home sidenapping, the visitors threatened the home goal on several occassions without really testing the keeper Lee Clatworthy except for one 1st half effort that he did well with when at full stretch he palmed over a good strike, in fairness the home side didn't give forwards
Bailey and Robinson any service, and they were unable to test the visitors keeper. Back to top
Saturday 23rd September 2006 -Cirencester United Reserves 2 Bisley Sports Reserves 2
United picked up their second point of the season with a hard earned draw against a well organised Sports team. Manager Mark Warriner welcomed back Aidey Meredith to a defensive line in which he played himself along side Dave Reeves, with the remainder of the squad having a very youthful look. Bisley dominated the early exchanges as United found themselves stretched across midfield and failed to pick up the runners who were willing to support the forwards at every opportunity. Lee Clatworthy made a couple of routine saves before United took the lead on 17 minutes somewhat against the run of play when a Bisley defender failed to clear the ball and Ben Stevens finished well from 10 yards.Bisley thought they had got an equaliser just after as the ball sailed over the head of Clatworthy and hit the inside of the post and bounced along the line before being clawed to safety. However, the equaliser arrived 7 minutes before half time when a header was scored from a well flighted free kick.
The second half saw some improvement from United but was Bisley who took the lead on the hour when poor defending allowed a simple tap in for the Sports forward. Manager Warriner then had to replace the injured Snook with Craig Harrison who was making his first start for 5 weeks following injury and it was this change that proved to be vital. Playing just 3 at the back Aidey Meredith moved into midfield and Dan Lye pushed forward to support Ben Stevens and Robbo, giving the team a far better look. After a lengthy delay following an injury to Bisley player Dan Lye scored the goal of the game when he turned well on the edge of the area and chipped the keeper. Overall a hard earned point for United with some excellent displays from Stevens and Lye while the experienced back line also did well. The reserves are without a fixture next week which should allow Warriner to get back some of his more experienced players. Back to top
Saturday 7th & Monday 9th October 2006 against Finchampstead Reserves (A) & Milton United Reserves (A)
United travelled to Finchampstead Saturday conceded a soft goal on 20 minutesScored by James Knight But battled back into the game and dominated the first 20 minutes of the second half In this spell Dan Bailey shot wide of the near post when he may of done better going across the keeper, then following a Saul Ricketts free kick that brought a good save from the home keeper the resulting corner should of brought a goal with both Ricketts and Craig Harrison spurning good chances, from this the home side broke away to score with a good cross being headed home by James Fox
The 3rd goal was a good strike by Steve Ryan to settle a disappointing game for United, however they had to quickly pick them selves up for the trip to Milton Monday night, they got off to a good start when Fabian Daniels broke into the box although staying up when fouled he was awarded the penalty which Danny Lye blasted home,
A few minutes later Daniels put through by strike partner Ben Stevens scored the second, United however spurned several good chances to put the match beyond the home side allowing them to come back into the game, it wasn?t until 20 minutes from normal time that the defence, superb on the night cracked under constant pressure with the ball ricocheting around the box it went in off a United defender, but they hung on to record their 1st win of the season. Saturday 14th October 2006 - Cirencester United Reserves 0 Fairford Town Reserves 3
With the 1st team taking a couple of players and Adie Meredith and James Keylock out with knocks, the reserves had to play one of the stronger teams in the division, with a seriously weakened side, but for 45 minutes of the 1st and ten of the second they put up a brave resistance, Danny Lye and Ben Stevens asked to play at centre back for the first time were outstanding until the former tweaked his hamstring, and had to go off, Player manager Mark Warriner once again wore the keepers gloves and made two fantastic saves that any decent keeper would have been proud to make, unfortunately he was at fault for the first goal, and once United were down there was no way back, although they made the visitors work for the points, they offered little threat to the opponents goal, withSaul Ricketts and his midfielders trying to stop the Fairford attacks they were unable to generate any decent balls to the returning Stuart Robinson and strike partner Fabian Daniels. Saturday 21st October 2006 - North Leigh Reserves 6 Cirencester United Reserves 1
With Matt Keslake still suffering with a rib injury Player manager Mark Warrinerwore the keeper gloves again, although again doing well, he is not happy to concede
12 goals in 3 games and it is more to do with his outfield presence being missed
rather than the fact he is between the sticks, following a 15 minute opening period
where United were rarely troubled the home side took the lead, a good shot taking a
wicked deflection off Ben Stevens, on the half hour North Leigh doubled the lead when
Hutter was left unmarked at the far post to drive home. United responded and persistence from Fabian Danials brought them back into the game, when he closed down the keeper carried the ball past two defenders and fired home. The visitors could of been level with a bit of luck, following a free kick from Danny Lye they kept the pressure on the home side and Joe Dorey slung over a good cross and Saul Ricketts dived to head the ball against the post, this seemed to deflate them and once again the home side were allowed to break and score far too easily, for twenty minutes of the second half the visitors controlled the game but could not find the net although Daniels went close on 3 occasions, however when Macabe scored the 4th United caved in and conceded 2 late goals. Saturday 11th November 2006 - Cirencester United Reserves 1 Wantage Town Reserves 0
With the 1st team having no game Mark Warriner had a full compliment ofplayers, with Adie Meredith unavailable he paired Roger Emms & Gus Fraser
at the back along with Mike Snook on the right and Steve Gleed on the left,
and they were well tested particularly in the second half when the visitors
dominated play, especially when the skipper Ben Stevens was sent off for
two yellow card offences, however Lee Clatworthy in goal was not over worked
due to the defensive cover infront of him, and it was the home side that threatened
to increase the lead they had gained in the first half when Joe Dorey beat his marker
and sent in a low cross that Saul Ricketts back heeled into the net from inside the
six yard box, However they couldn't add to the score but went close through Fabian
Daniels and on two occasions Harry Newman, Danny Lye again gave a good display
in midfield along with Mark Belcher making his debut at the acres. Jamie Keylock
and Ben Anderson did well when going on to relieve tired legs, and ensured the home
side picked up 3 valuable points to move above the visitors. Back to top
